JAKARTA, February 15, 2008 – Ever since the Indonesia Open became a co-sanctioned event by the European Tour and Asian Tour in 2005, no Indonesian golfer has succeeded in making the cut after two days of play. Now, after a fielding record of 13 amateur and professional players from the host nation, four golfers have created history at the Cengkareng Golf Club.

After two rounds of golf at the Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open 2008, Indonesian professional Denny Supriadi from Puri Indah Club in Batam recorded a par 70 for a 3-under par 137 total. After some consistent play in the front nine, Denny recovered from a string of bogies from the 12th hole to finish the day with a birdie on the difficult 18th hole.

Aceh Darussalam born Ilyassyak joins his fellow professional with a matching 137 after shooting 4-under par 66 for the second day. Known for his powerful strokes, this is the fourth time Ilyassyak has competed in the Indonesia Open.

Seasoned veteran Maan Nasim is close behind with a total score of 138. A member of the Club Matoa National Golf Club, Maan was held the top position of the Indonesian Professional Golf Association’s Order of Merit in 2006.

The sole surviving amateur player, Suprapto, who recently brought home the bronze medal at the 2007 SEA Games, carded a 1 over 71 that included an eagle on the 9th hole. His two day score of 138 makes him the first Indonesian amateur ever to make the cut at a co-sanctioned European Tour / Asian Tour event.

“I was a bit tense today, because I just wanted to maintain my position,” said Denny Supriadi. “Tomorrow, I can be more relaxed, as now I can just focus on attacking the course and doing the best I can. I can be more bold since my goal of making the cut has been met.”

Since 2005, the Indonesia Open is a highly competitive tournament thanks to the participation of international calibered players such as Mikko Ilonen (2007 Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesia Open champion), Simon Dyson (2006 champion) and Thaworn Wiratchant (2005 champion).
